What is Free Church Texting?

It is software a church uses to text its members and guests, whether that is one text to everyone, a text to one group or a reply to one person. The church opens its own Twilio account, and Free Church Texting sends the church's texts through that account from a number that belongs to the church.

When does it open?

It opens on Tuesday, December 1, 2026. Churches that sign up now get help starting their registration with the phone companies before then, because that review takes two to three weeks.

What does it cost?

Free Church Texting charges nothing for it. Twilio charges the church $0.0083 for each text of up to 160 characters, the phone companies add $0.0035 to $0.005 to each text, and a local number costs $1.15 a month. Registration costs $19.50 to $61 once and $1.50 to $3 a month. Those are Twilio's prices on October 13, 2026, and at those prices a church that texts 200 people four times a month pays about $12 to $13 a month. The costs page has a calculator and every rate.

Why does our church need its own Twilio account?

Your church is the sender, so the phone companies register your church, and Twilio bills your church at its own prices with nothing added. The number, the registration and the bill belong to your church, and they stay with it if it ever stops using Free Church Texting.

Does our church have to register?

Yes, every church that texts from software has to register. Phone companies in the United States, which the industry calls carriers, deliver those texts only after the sender registers, and Twilio blocks texts from a number that is not registered. The registration guide shows each filing, for a local number and for a toll-free one.

How long does registration take?

Twilio says the review of a campaign for a local number takes two to three weeks, and the verification of a toll-free number takes about 3 to 5 business days. Both come after a customer profile that can take 72 hours or more.

Can our church register as a nonprofit?

A church that is a 501(c)(3) organization can register its brand as a nonprofit, and Twilio checks the church's name and tax number against the IRS's list of tax-exempt organizations. When the check recognizes the church, it can file the carriers' Charity campaign, which costs $3 a month and carries no AT&T or T-Mobile fee on each text. Otherwise the church files the Low Volume Mixed campaign at $1.50 a month.

Who is the sender of the texts?

Your church is the sender, and each text goes out under its name, from its number, on its registration. As Twilio's customer, the church answers for following the texting rules, and Free Church Texting keeps the records that make that possible.

How do people join our list?

A person agrees to texts on a signup page with your church's name on it, by texting a word such as JOIN to your number, or on a paper card that your staff types in. Free Church Texting records when and how each person agreed and the words they saw, and it texts a number only when it holds that record.

Can we bring in the list we already have?

Yes, your church can bring its list in from a spreadsheet. Imported numbers arrive with no permission on record, so Free Church Texting stores them and sends them nothing. It gives your church a signup page, a QR code for the bulletin and a printed sign-up sheet, and each person starts getting texts after agreeing.

How does a person stop the texts?

The person replies STOP, or UNSUBSCRIBE, END, QUIT, STOPALL, REVOKE, OPTOUT or CANCEL, and gets one text confirming it. After that your church's texts to that number stop until the person texts START. Your staff can also mark any number do-not-text after a phone call or a word in the hallway.

Can people reply to a text?

Yes, replies come into one inbox, and your staff can answer each person from there.

Can we send pictures?

Yes, your church can send picture messages. Twilio charges $0.022 for each one, and the phone companies add $0.007 to $0.01.

Does it send iMessage?

Free Church Texting sends regular text messages and picture messages, the kind every mobile phone receives, through your church's Twilio account. Free Church Texting no longer offers the iMessage plan that this site used to sell, which was called Church Posting Blue.

What does Free Church Texting do with our Twilio key?

The key is a kind of password your church creates in Twilio for this one job. It lets Free Church Texting buy your number, send your texts and read your registration status, and your church keeps its Twilio password to itself. Free Church Texting stores the key encrypted and shows it to nobody once it is saved, and your church can delete the key at Twilio at any time.

Can our church leave?

Your church can leave at any time. The Twilio account, the number and the registration are your church's own and stay with it. Your church can download its contacts, permission records and messages as spreadsheet files, and deleting its account here removes its data and its key.

Does our church need Covenant OS?

Free Church Texting works on its own. Covenant OS, church management software from Church Posting, plans Sunday services, schedules volunteers, keeps membership and giving records and includes the same texting. A church that moves to Covenant OS connects the same Twilio account and keeps its number, its registration, its people and their permission records.

Who owns Free Church Texting?

Ministry Marketing LLC, doing business as Church Posting, a Kansas company owned by a father and son, Scott and Will Hamilton, owns and operates Free Church Texting. It also owns and operates Berean Blue, a free Bible study app, Church SEO Experts and Covenant OS. Ministry Marketing LLC is a for-profit company, so it registers its own texting as a business, and each church registers in its own name.
