Texting terms

These terms cover the texts churches send with Free Church Texting, free software from Church Posting that sends each church's texts through the church's own account at Twilio, the company that carries them. One part is for a person who gets those texts, and the other is for a church that sends them.

Free Church Texting opens on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, and these terms apply from that day.

For people who get a church's texts

1. The program

A church that uses Free Church Texting texts its members, attenders and guests under its own name, from its own phone number. The church sends the texts and is responsible for them. Ministry Marketing LLC, doing business as Church Posting, a Kansas limited liability company, provides the software.

2. Messages

Churches send church news and reminders: service times and changes, weather cancellations, event and volunteer reminders, group messages, prayer requests, and replies when you text the church.

3. Opt-in

You get texts only after you agree to them, on the church's signup page, by texting the church's keyword to its number, or by checking a box on a paper card. Agreeing to texts is never a condition of attending, joining or giving.

4. Frequency

Message frequency varies by church, and each church states the number of texts to expect in a month where you sign up. A church may send more during a weather emergency or a week with a special event.

5. Sending hours

Scheduled texts go out between 8 AM and 8 PM. A church's staff can send an urgent notice, such as a weather cancellation, at another hour.

6. Cost

Message and data rates may apply. Free Church Texting charges you nothing for these texts.

7. Opt-out

Reply STOP to any text from a church. You will get one text confirming that you are unsubscribed, and no more texts from that church until you reply START to sign up again. Replies of STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, REVOKE and OPTOUT work the same way as STOP. On a toll-free number the confirmation comes from the phone company, and START or UNSTOP signs you up again.

You can also tell the church in person, by phone or by email, and its staff mark your number so that it gets no more texts.

8. Help

Reply HELP to any text for the church's phone number or email address. For a question about the software, write to hello@churchposting.com.

9. Carriers

Carriers are not liable for any delayed or undelivered messages.

10. Privacy

Each church's privacy notice explains how that church handles your number, and our privacy page explains what Ministry Marketing LLC does. No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

For churches that send texts

1. Your Twilio account

Your church opens its own account with Twilio, accepts Twilio's terms and pays Twilio directly, and Free Church Texting charges nothing for it.

2. Registration

Your church registers with the phone companies in its own name before it texts, as the registration guide describes. Free Church Texting sends nothing to a number in the United States until Twilio shows your church's number as registered.

3. Permission

Your church texts only people who agreed to its texts. Free Church Texting keeps the record of each agreement, with the date, the place and the words the person saw, and it sends to a number only when it holds that record.

4. Stop requests

A reply of STOP ends your church's texts to that number at once. When a person asks to stop in any other way, your staff mark the number do-not-text within one business day.

5. Your own pages

Your church publishes its own texting terms and privacy notice, and the registration guide has wording for both. It sends only the kinds of texts its registration describes.

6. The law

Your church is the sender, and it answers for following the law on texting, which includes the Federal Communications Commission's rules at 47 CFR 64.1200, and the phone companies' rules. These terms and the guides on this site are information for churches, and they are no substitute for a lawyer's advice.

7. Your Twilio key

Free Church Texting stores your church's Twilio key encrypted and uses it to buy your number, send your texts and read your registration status. Your church can delete the key at Twilio at any time, and deleting your account here removes the key and your church's data.

Changes

We post any change to these terms on this page with a new date.
